Scott #1 [1919 "2 / ØRE" surcharge on Danish 5 øre Christian X] Mint with F-VF centering. Full original gum, with only a modest hinge remnant. Very well-struck overprint (these were struck individually by hand, thus the overprint impression can vary). Very fresh color, fresh paper, and with perfect perforations. A very nice example of a stamp that is missing, especially in Mint condition, from most collections. Accompanied by a 2018 Lars Jørgensen color image certificate (he is one of the widely-accepted expertizers who stepped in after Lasse Nielsen retired).

Scott #1 [1919 "2 / ØRE" surcharge on Danish 5 øre Christian X] Mint with F-VF centering. Original gum, though slightly disturbed if examined under 10x magnification and with a very small "gum soak" spot in the top margin due to hinging. There are two very tiny (requires at least 10x magnification to see) thin specks on two perforation teeth. Extremely well-struck overprint (these were struck individually by hand, thus the overprint impression can vary). Excellent appearance! A very nice looking example of a stamp that is missing, especially in Mint condition, from most collections. This example had been examined and was initialed on reverse in pencil ("HP") by Henrik Pollak in 1985 or earlier. Accompanied by a 2024 Jay Smith certificate with "lifetime" guarantee. This would otherwise be $950!

FAROE BISECT 4 øre Wavy-Line Stamp on Piece (Scott lists as Denmark #88a), Facit #1a [1919 Bisect of Danish 4 øre Wavy-Line Stamp, originally Scott #88, Perf 14 x 14.5, Crosses Watermark] Used VF on small-size, partially cut-to-shape piece accompanied by F-VF Denmark #97 (a couple short perfs at bottom) [5 øre Christian X] to make the complete 7 øre postal rate for which the bisects and the Faroe #1 overprints were intended to meet. Bisected upper left to lower right, which is scarcer orientation. Almost complete and quite unusual TRANGISVAAG 21 January cancellation. The paper of the piece was torn at the bottom of the bisect, but was adhered back into place. Accompanied by Jay Smith color image certificate with lifetime guarantee stating that the stamps are genuine and belong on the piece and that the cancellation is genuine, but since backdated examples are known to exist, the date of the cancellation may be questionable (details of the guarantee are available). The bisects were made starting 6 January when it became clear that the supply of 2 øre stamps (needed to make up the new 7 øre postal rate) was quickly being exhausted, but before the 12 January Faroe #1 2 øre overprints were created. Bisects were used through 24 January, however, the DAKA Catalog states that "some" examples canceled 18-20 January at Trangisvaag were canceled after 24 January but were backdated to 18-20 January. We cannot know if this example was actually used on the 20th or if it was backdated. Facit SEK 4000 (1/2024 about $400, with most common postmark). A very nice looking example of a scarce Faroe item that is missing from virtually all Faroe collections, offered at a great price! [C#02852-01-013]
